History of Theatre 17
History of Theatre 17 in Dryden
The original Theatre 17 was formed in the 1980’s by a group of like-minded arts enthusiasts. It successfully lasted for several years before disbanding.
In 2005 Judith Hamilton, Susan Andrusco and Derrick Hiscox formed a group to resurrect community theatre. At the first meeting it was decided to adopt the name Theatre 17 as a link to the past. The first production,” Quilters” was presented in February 2006. It was directed by Judith Hamilton and Susan Andrusco. With a cast of nine women and two men, it told of the story of the hardships of the pioneers in the form of quilt blocks.
There is speculation about the name. Is it a reflection of the number of people in the original group? Is it a connection to Highway 17, the roadway that connects us to the rest of the country?
